Sepak Takraw

  • Explain the physical activity you participated in.
Today we had participated in Sepak Takraw this game is from south east Asia. Sepak Takraw is a game similar to volleyball but instead of using your hands you use your feet to kick it over the net. For this game you need teams of 3 and the objective of the game is to kick the ball over the net and try make it hit the ground and that is how you score points.

  • What level of effort and engagement were you participating at during today’s physical activity? Why? (Grade yourself NA, A or M and refer to marking criteria)
For today I would grade myself as a Achieve because I was engaged and I had participated but my effort wasn't all that great. For example I was organized and prepared for the activity by bringing my PE gear. I was also trying to improve by practicing and participating in the activity
  • What were three factors which influenced your participation? (Choose from the list below, and put a + or - beside the three factors to show whether it positively or negatively influenced your participation).
- Skill Level
- Challenge
+ Friends/Classmates
  • Explain HOW these factors affected your participation (with specific examples)
Skill level had a affect on me because it was hard to play and I would start getting frustrated because the ball wouldn't go over the net. This had a negative affect on my participation.
Challenge also had a affect on me because the game was challenging and we also couldn't hit the ball with our hands. This had a negative affect on me.
Friends/Classmates also had a affect on me because I like playing with and against my classmates so it had a positive affect on me.

How could you increase your (or your peers) participation in this activity in the future?
In the future a way to increase my peers participation is by sitting with them and talking with them and try to figure out why they don't wanna play and see if I can do anything.

  1. Thanks for sharing Brodie. This is some great reflection and totally appreciate your honesty. You definitely have identified for yourself the areas in which you have done well as well as the areas that you need to work on. This is highly reflective and if you continue to work on these key areas no doubt you will improve an get a M next time. Awesome work and I really enjoyed reading your reflections. Keep up the good Mahi

  2. Kia ora Brodie,

My name is James Hopkins and I work with the Manaiakalani Outreach team through CORE Education. I'm thrilled to be the person that gets to share in your blogs and your learning. I can't wait to hear more about the wonderful things you do both in and out of school. I'll subscribe to your blog so I never miss an update!

I have been working with a cluster of schools in Mt Roskill, Auckland, helping get the learners and teachers into their own blogging journey. I'll always try to leave you a positive, thoughtful and helpful comment with a greeting and connection to someone if I can.

I can see you're a serious blogger and have a range of posts I'll be exploring over the next few weeks. This one's great! LOTS of information. Have you thought about hyperlinking your key words e.g. Sepak Tafraw to a wikipedia page or video explaining the rules? Your honesty around becoming frustration is really strong, it takes a lot to admit that something's hard and even more to admit that you showed frustration that may have held you back!

Can't wait to see more... 'blog you later!'

    James
